چکیده

Keratoconus, a degenerative disorder of the cornea, causes significant visual distortion and photophobia. Diagnosed in early life, it has a considerable influence on the patient’s daily activities and visual needs. A study of the rural population in Central India gave a prevalence of 2.3% +/0.2% among those aged 30 years and above.[1] The conventional treatment of keratoconus has been the fitting of contact lenses and surgical treatments such as keratoplasty and intrastromal corneal ring segments. In spite of these therapies, the condition can be progressive and hence distressing to the patient.

Corneal melting after collagen cross-linking for keratoconus: a case report

INTRODUCTION Corneal collagen cross-linking is a rather new technique that uses riboflavin and ultraviolet A light for collagen fiber stabilization in keratoconus corneas. Other than reversible side effects, the preliminary results of corneal collagen cross-linking studies suggest that it is a rather safe technique. In this report, we demonstrate a case of corneal melting after corneal collagen...

Evaluation of Corneal Aberrometry Parameters Before and After Cross-Linking in Patients with Keratoconus

Background and Objective: In the last decade, cross-linking (CXL) has been widely used for treating people with progressive keratoconus. The present study aimed to compare corneal aberrometry parameters before and after CXL in patients with keratoconus. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 67 patients with keratoconus referred to Farshchian Sina Medical Education Center, Hamad...

Accelerated versus conventional corneal collagen cross-linking in the treatment of mild keratoconus: a comparative study

AIM To evaluate the use of accelerated corneal collagen cross-linking in the management of mild and moderate progressive keratoconus in comparison with conventional cross-linking. PATIENTS AND METHODS Prospective randomized interventional case-control clinical trial. A total 25 eyes of 18 patients were randomly divided into two groups: group A included 14 eyes that received accelerated collag...

Comparative Results in a Combined Procedure of Intrastromal Corneal Rings Implantation and Cross-linking in Patients with Keratoconus: A Retrospective Study

INTRODUCTION Corneal thinning disorders caused by keratoconus often lead to protrusion, irregular astigmatism, and even perforation. Keratoconus, like other corneal ectasia, does not have a known cause. Severe cases of keratoconus may require correction or restoration of tectonic integrity of the cornea by surgical means. Intracorneal ring segments are a new modality in the treatment of corneal...

Scheimpflug imaged corneal changes on anterior and posterior surfaces after collagen cross-linking.

AIM To compare the anterior and posterior corneal parameters before and after collagen cross-linking therapy for keratoconus. METHODS Collagen cross-linking was performed in 31 eyes of 31 keratoconus patients (mean age 30.6±8.9y). Prior to treatment and an average 7mo after therapy, Scheimpflug analysis was performed using Pentacam HR. In addition to corneal thickness assessments, corneal rad...

An Update on the Safety and Efficacy of Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking in Pediatric Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a degenerative disease that affects adolescents and young adults and presents with variable thinning and conical deformation of the corneal apex. The resultant irregular astigmatism can progress to levels that can significantly affect everyday activities and overall quality of life. Therefore, stopping the progression of the disease is an essential part in managing patients with ...
